SCIENCE RESEARCH
My students are superstars- they win big science competitions, get into the best schools, and are absolutely amazing. I am fortunate to teach students chemistry and science research- go STEM and STEAM!
ABOUT ME.
I am a teacher. My ultimate goal is to help the next generation become strong, confident, and excellent in all endeavors. I grew up in Oregon, and started my career in New York- my unique perspective provides me with the ability to combine research-backed instructional methods with a student centered approach. I am committed to providing outstanding educational opportunities to my students, and ensuring that finances do not impede their ability to succeed. Mother of two. Wife.
EXPERIENCE.
With 15 years of teaching experience, I have honed my craft and am open to new techniques and strategies. My students include 3 Intel Semifinalists, 1 Intel Finalist, and myriad successfully published papers and other recognition. I work in a Title 1 school- and believe that all students can succeed when given appropriate tools, guidance, and support. I advocate for women and diversity in science!
EDUCATION.
I obtained my undergraduate degree in Biology at Pace University, while playing Division II collegiate volleyball. I earned my Master’s degree in Environmental Education from Queens College. I recently finished a certification program in Educational Leadership from The College of St. Rose. With this certification I was able to obtain a certification in Building Leadership.
AWARDS.
I have won a few awards along the way- none so powerful as seeing my students’ success. Intel Teacher of Merit, Siemens Science Teacher Award, Teacher of the Year (Elmont Memorial High School). My greatest rewards come when my students are published. Or start to understand IUPAC. Or finally write using appropriate APA citations. I love when my students learn collaboratively, and become scientists!
